A place I return to often — for the light, the landscape, and the contrast between the Winelands, the coast and the openness of the natural environment.

A place to belong

There is something about Stellenbosch that keeps drawing me back.

Over time, it has become part of our life in South Africa — connected to family, familiar routines and a different rhythm of living.

I love the way the mountains, vineyards, architecture and outdoor life come together so naturally. It is a place I know well, but one that still feels slightly different every time I return.

Living room with beige sofa, white armchairs, wooden coffee table, fireplace with stacked firewood, large windows with curtains, and a balcony with outdoor seating overlooking green hills.

The house

A bright dining room with a large wooden table, surrounded by seven chairs, and decorated with potted plants, framed artwork, and a woven pendant light overhead. There are large windows with curtains, and a sideboard with decorative items. A breakfast bar with three stools separates the dining area from the kitchen.
Modern kitchen with green cabinets, white countertops, and a tile backsplash. Appliances include a wine cooler and a stove. Decor features plants, cups, and glassware on open shelves.
Cozy bedroom with a large bed, wooden headboard, white and green pillows, beige blanket, two lamps, potted plants, sunlight coming through large window with cream curtains, artwork on teal wall.

A comfortable home surrounded by nature, with open views towards the Stellenbosch mountains.

What makes it special is the sense of space and calm, the closeness to the landscape, the light, and the easy connection between indoors and outdoors.

It is a place to slow down, spend time outside and enjoy a more relaxed rhythm of living.

the apartment

A modern kitchen with white cabinets, a geometric black and white backsplash, a black oven, and a countertop with a toaster and kettle. A wooden shelf with mugs and a plant is above the sink, and a large clock hangs on the wall. The dining table in front has white bowls, lemon-shaped decorations, woven placemats, and is set for meals. To the right, there's a blue door and some additional kitchen storage units.
A cozy bedroom with a bed topped with white and cream textured pillows and a blanket, two hanging bedside lamps, a painting of a beach landscape above the bed, a window with white curtains, a wooden vanity with a mirror and a plant, and a woven basket on the wooden floor.
Modern bathroom with a glass shower, wall-mounted toilet, round mirror, floating wooden vanity with vessel sink, and decorative vase with eucalyptus branches.

A calm, light-filled apartment in central Stellenbosch, designed as an easy base for a few days or a longer stay.

The interior is simple and comfortable, with everything close at hand — restaurants, galleries, cafés and the surrounding vineyards.

It feels practical, relaxed and easy to settle into.

beyond stellenbosch

South Africa opens up very quickly once you move beyond the Winelands.

There is the Atlantic and Indian Ocean coastline, Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula, the West Coast, long mountain ranges and, further inland, the bush and game reserves.

What I enjoy most is the contrast. One trip can move from vineyards and beaches to dramatic landscapes, quiet reserves and completely different parts of the country.

There is always more to see, but also enough space to slow down and simply take it in.

safari

A herd of oryx antelopes walking across a dry, dusty plain in a savannah landscape with scattered trees and a cloudy sky.

Safari has its own rhythm.

There is the excitement of seeing wildlife in its natural environment, but what stays with me most is the stillness — the waiting, the distance, the sounds and the way the landscape changes throughout the day.

It always reminds me to slow down, look more carefully and notice more.

the coast

Two children, a boy and a girl, playing with nets on a sandy beach near rocks, with a lighthouse and the ocean in the background under a clear blue sky.

South Africa’s coastline changes constantly — from dry, open stretches in the west to dramatic cliffs, long beaches and greener shores further east.

What I love most is the sense of space. It can feel raw and powerful, but at the same time incredibly calm.

It is one of those landscapes that makes you slow down almost without noticing.
